Erdbank

The Erdbank is a unique sitting-sculp­ture that serves as an ecological statement and pays homage to the art of earthen construction. A sym­bolic cycle emerges: from earth to earth, where impermanence meets eternity and manifests in a harmonious object representing a place of rest and tranquility. The monolith, consisting of 15 compressed layers of soil, not only emphasizes the physical presence but also reveals the in­organic beauty of the material. Its puristic form carries an authentic character and inspires to see the beauty of the ground below in a new light. In 2024, the first earthen bench found its resting place in the Bota­nical Garden of the University of Vienna. Surrounded by nature, the bench is reintegrated into it and can gradually become what it has always been: earth. With its gentle decline, the circle closes, and eventually new life will bloom out of the former bench.

Die Erdbank ist eine Sitzskulptur, die ein ökologisches Statement darstellt und eine Hommage an die Lehmbau-Kunst ist. Ein symbolischer Kreislauf zeichnet sich ab: Von Erde zu Erde, wo Vergänglichkeit auf Ewigkeit trifft und einen Ort der Ruhe re­präsentiert. Der Monolith aus 15 komprimierten Lehm-Schichten betont nicht nur die physische Präsenz, sondern offenbart auch die anorganische Schönheit des Materials. Seine puristische Form verleiht ihm einen authentischen Charakter und inspiriert dazu, die Schönheit des Bodens in einem neuen Licht zu sehen. Im Jahr 2024 fand die erste Erdbank ihren Ruheplatz im Botanischen Garten in Wien. Umgeben von der Natur, wird die Bank wieder in sie eingebunden und kann allmählich zu dem werden, was sie schon immer war: Erde. Mit ihrem sanften Rückgang schliesst sich der Kreis, und vielleicht erblüht aus der einstigen Bank irgendwann neues Leben.
